Working headlights are a must in any vehicle, and not just for people who need to drive after dark. In Pennsylvania, you also have to have the headlights switched on when you can’t see 1,000 feet in front of you and when the windshield wipers are in use. If you notice any of the signs we’re going to talk about below, then you’ll need to get new headlights from your Hyundai dealer ASAP.
1. They Get Dimmer
Headlights don’t just go from 100% working to totally dead. Usually, they’ll get dimmer for a while before they finally burn out. Pay close attention to your headlights every time you turn them on, and make sure you take note if they seem dimmer than before. Head to the dealer to replace them sooner rather than later, as you won’t want them to totally burn out at an inconvenient time.
Dimming headlights can also be a sign of an electrical issue, such as a problem with wiring, your alternator, or your battery, so make sure you look out for other issues your vehicle is having. Tell your dealer about any other potential issues you’re having when you visit them to talk about your dimming headlights.
2. They Get Hazy
Hazy headlights can sometimes mean that the headlights are preparing to burn out, but it could also be a different issue. You should head to the dealer and have the headlights checked out, as the dealer will be able to tell whether the headlights are nearing the end of their lifespan or whether they just need a good, strong cleaning. Sometimes dirt and salt can cause hazy headlights, and a thorough cleaning with a special solution can solve the problem.
3. They Start Flickering
Like all lights, your headlights might start flickering in the lead-up to them burning out. Getting to a dealer ASAP will make sure you get them replaced before they stop working completely. However, be aware that flickering headlights are also a symptom of issues with other parts of your vehicle, such as the battery or alternator. Your dealer might want to fully check out your vehicle to rule out more serious issues.
4. They Don’t Work at All
If your headlights won’t turn on at all, then it’s the most obvious sign that something is wrong with them. While this can be caused by a faulty battery or alternator, and sometimes even a bad spark plug, it can also be a sign that the lights have just burned out. Sometimes just one of the lights won’t turn on, and if that happens, it’s a good idea to get both replaced. The other one is probably on its way out, too.
