Day trips are like mini vacations: you visit new places, have fun, and share valuable time with your loved ones. And the best thing is, you don’t need to wait until the holidays, any weekend day or day off is perfect. There are several exciting options if you are in the Butler, PA. area. Here’s our take on the best five.

1. Hartwood Acres

Hartwood Acres Mansion is located at the heart of one of Pittsburgh’s beautiful scenic parks. The park itself is perfect for a relaxing walk among beautiful gardens, but the real treat is the Tudor-style mansion built during the early 20th century.

The mansion tour takes you through 22 (of the 31) rooms and includes the library and the great hall. The estate still displays many of the original furniture and decorations, such as a Steinway piano and a hand-carved mantel that dates back to 1601. Because this is one of Pittsburgh’s most beloved tourist attractions, booking your tour in advance is recommended.

2. Seven Springs Mountain Resort

If you are looking for the best winter experience in the area, visit Seven Springs and spend your day skiing. The resort is just 80 miles away from Butler and offers well-maintained slopes and trails for a perfect skiing experience. I

If you want to visit during other seasons, there’s still plenty to do: you can bike and hike and participate in one of the many fun events organized by the resort, such as the Easter brunch.

3. Erie

Erie city is the only Great Lakes port city in the Pennsylvania Commonwealth. Here, you can enjoy watersports such as skiing, boating, and fishing. Within the city, you can find 7 miles of beautiful, sandy beaches where you can swim, rest, and enjoy a family picnic.

If you are looking for a child-friendly adventure, Erie is a great spot to consider, as there are also several water parks available. The beaches and waterparks are usually open from Memorial Day Weekend to Labor Day.

4. Falling Water House

Get to experience one of the most unique houses in the world by visiting Falling Water House. Built by Frank Lloyd Wright for the Kaufman family, the place is now a museum, and you can book a tour on their website.

This beautiful spot is not only a learning experience; it’s also surrounded by the incredible Bear Run Nature Reserve, where you can hike, bike, and camp. And, Falling water is just 90 miles away from Butler, making it perfect for a one-day adventure.

5. Penn’s Cave and Wildlife Park

If you are willing to spend a little more time driving (about three hours), we recommend visiting Penn’s Cave and Wildlife Park. The park is home to wildlife species like mountain lions and timber wolves.

You can take a fully guided boat tour of the all-water cavern, visit the working farm, or discover the 4,800 square-foot mazes at the park. For lunch, you can visit the on-site restaurant.
