Electrical problems are most likely to occur in cars that aren’t regularly serviced. These problems can vary from being a minor nuisance to a major problem, depending on the affected components. As your Hyundai dealer, we’d like you to know more about some of the electrical issues we can fix.

Damaged Spark Plugs

Spark plugs provide the spark that ignites the fuel-air mixture in the engine cylinders. Damaged spark plugs won’t ignite the fuel-air mixture correctly, and this will produce a misfire. If more than one spark plug is damaged, your engine could stall. The plugs wear out due to age, and they’re replaced regularly according to your car’s service schedule.

Plugs can also fail due to damage to other engine components or poor engine conditions. A fuel-rich engine, for example, contains more fuel than air. This heady mixture makes it difficult for the plugs to ignite successfully. In addition, this environment will coat the plugs in sticky black carbon. A carbon coating makes ignition even more difficult and reduces the lifespan of the plug. We can easily examine the plugs and replace any damaged ones.

Failing Alternator

The alternator is the most important part of your car’s electrical system, as it produces the power all your car’s systems and devices depend on. The average life of an alternator is approximately eight years and then it will need to be replaced. An alternator’s lifespan can be reduced by problems like a dying battery, which can easily kill a healthy alternator.

If your alternator is failing, random electrical glitches will appear like windows that refuse to open or a radio that won’t switch on. Dim then bright lights and starting difficulties can also appear as the reduced electricity supply affects other engine components. If you’re experiencing any of these issues, our technicians will check your alternator and install a new one if necessary.

Worn Sensors

Modern cars have a network of sensors, and these sensors are attached to every vital system in your car. The sensors connect directly to your car’s computer, and they continuously relay information on the health and status of their connected system. The computer uses this information to make countless decisions that enable your Hyundai to drive easily, efficiently, and safely.

Sensors can fail, and a failed sensor won’t transmit information to your computer. The lack of information can lead to errors on your computer, and these errors could result in additional damage to your car or its systems. We can trace damaged sensors by connecting your car’s computer to our diagnostic system. Once we pinpoint the worn sensor, we can fit a replacement.

We can easily and efficiently fix any problem with your car’s electrical system. Call our service department today at Mike Kelly Hyundai.
