A Hyundai car driving outside close to sunset

From a quick grocery run to cross-state driving, your Hyundai is made to get you through it. But to keep your car running, you will need to visit your local Hyundai dealer to get an oil change.

Like most substances, oil isn’t immortal. It degrades over time and requires replacement. Without this replacement, your car won’t function smoothly.

Oil’s role in your Hyundai is to lubricate and clean the many parts of your engine. Doing this helps preserve the engine so your car can be used for longer. Without clean, efficient oil, the engine will deteriorate and could even be damaged.

Oil Gets Dirty

As oil circulates your car’s engine, it picks up debris from the engine’s parts. Over time, this debris builds up and can cause the oil to change color and thicken. Motor oil also breaks down naturally as it ages and is used. The older it is, and the more use it sees, the thicker it will get.

Thicker oil doesn’t flow as smoothly through your Hyundai’s engine. This means it isn’t removing as much dirt from the system and, combined with higher friction within the engine, it decreases the efficiency of your car. This affects the mileage you get out of your gas and a Hyundai’s health.

The Effects of Not Changing Your Oil

If dirt particles and chemical byproducts aren’t removed from your car’s engine, they can cause damage. With more friction, more heat is produced, causing premature wear and tear on the engine. On top of decreasing your mileage, this can make malfunctions and service issues more likely.

Old, sludgy motor oil can wreak havoc on a car. If not changed properly, the damage to your Hyundai’s engine might be even more expensive than the cost of changing its oil. In severe cases, the engine may have to be replaced entirely.

How to Know Your Hyundai is Ready for a Change

Most Hyundai’s come equipped with a built-in light on the car’s dashboard which will tell you when the motor oil is ready for a change. We recommend changing oil every 3,000 to 10,000 miles, depending on the type of engine and your car’s use. However, there are other ways to tell when a car is ready for oil replacement:

  • Engine overheating
  • Decreased fuel efficiency
  • A burning smell
  • Unusual vibrations or noises

If you notice any of these signs, it’s best to get your Hyundai looked at right away. Regular changes will keep it running longer. Bring your car to Mike Kelly Hyundai in Butler, PA to get your oil checked and replaced if needed. We can also help you with any of your other car service or parts needs.
