2020 Hyundai Ioniq
Hyundai's answer to the small hybrid is its functional Ioniq. The 2020 model offers a few upgrades and features that appeal to both tech-savvy drivers and those looking to reduce their emissions. While the Ioniq Hybrid's performance leaves something to be desired when compared to traditional gas-powered vehicles, it's still a strong competitor in the hybrid and electric field. Take a look at the exciting features the Ioniq Hybrid has to offer.
Trim Levels (Exterior)
The Ioniq Hybrid comes in four trim levels: Blue, SE, SEL, and Limited. The base Blue model comes standard with tech and safety features like a push-button start, keyless entry, smartphone integration, forward collision braking, and automatic braking. The SE model adds to the base features with additional elements like heated front seats and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. The SEL comes with additional premium features like a wireless smartphone charging pad, adaptive cruise control, and a sunroof. Finally, the high-end Limited trim provides parking sensors, a larger infotainment screen, and leather seats.
Engine (Power)
The 2020 Ioniq Hybrid features a 1.6-liter Atkinson cycle inline-four engine that offers 104 horsepower and 109 pound-feet of torque. This engine is paired with a 32-kW Interior-Permanent Magnet Synchronous hybrid motor that provides 125 pound-feet of torque. With both engines, it produces a combined 139 horsepower with an EPA-estimated 55 mpg in the city and 54 mpg on the highway for the top three trims, while the Blue model gets 57 mpg in the city and 59 on the highway.
Performance
The 2020 Ioniq Hybrid trades driving performance for excellent fuel efficiency. It takes a sluggish 8.9 seconds to get from zero to 60 miles per hour. The transmission also faces some timing issues in Eco mode, which results in tepid acceleration. However, steering and handling are optimal, making the Ioniq fun and comfortable to drive on both the highway and curvy roads.
Interior
The 2020 Ioniq Hybrid's interior is well designed for all models. Hyundai sources some materials to make cabin components from renewable resources like volcanic rock and sugar cane. The backseat is big enough for adult passengers, but not optimal for long road trips. However, the Ioniq provides substantial luggage space in the hatchback's rear, yielding more storage space than some larger in-class competitors.
The technology features on the main dash include an eight-inch touchscreen infotainment system in the Blue, SE, and SEL models and a 10.3-inch screen in the top-of-the-line Limited trim. All infotainment systems have Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity built-in. The Limited trim offers wireless charging as well.
Safety Features
The 2020 Ioniq Hybrid steps up the safety features with a bevy of standard elements designed with safe driving in mind. Among a few of the favorite standard features, drivers will appreciate the automated braking paired with forward collision warning software, lane keep assist, lane departure warning, high beam assist, and a few other driver attention monitoring systems. Optional safety features include rear traffic alert and blind-spot monitoring. Overall, the Ioniq offers a higher number of quality safety features than other competitors in its class.
