2020 Hyundai Veloster
The 2020 Hyundai Veloster is a sporty vehicle with an inventive three-door design. Its low price point compared to others in its class is enticing, and it's fun to drive and offers a memorable performance. Read on to learn about some of the best features of the 2020 Veloster.
Trim Levels (Exterior)
The 2020 Veloster comes in six trim levels: 2.0, 2.0 Premium, Turbo R-Spec, Turbo, Turbo Ultimate, and N. The base 2.0 trim comes with a solid set of driving modes and some great tech and safety features. 2.0 Premium adds a sunroof and keyless proximity entry along with upgraded tech and safety elements.
Turbo R-Spec upgrades the suspension and steering, adds high-performance tires and 18-inch aluminum wheels, and includes a six-speed manual transmission. The Turbo trim adds a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission along with the Turbo R-Spec's additional upgrades. The Turbo Ultimate includes the performance upgrades of the other Turbo trims with luxury-style interior features.
Finally, the Veloster N model is all about performance with a six-speed manual transmission, front-wheel drive, an upgraded engine, high-quality suspension, and performance brakes.
Engine (Power)
The 2020 Veloster comes with three engine choices. The base 2.0 and 2.0 Premium have a 2-liter four-cylinder engine that makes 147 horsepower with 132 pound-feet of torque. In comparison, the Turbo R-Spec, Turbo, and Turbo Ultimate trims feature a turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine that creates 201 horsepower and 195 pound-feet of torque. Last but not least, the N model comes with a more powerful 2.0-liter four-cylinder Turbo engine with 250 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque.
Performance
With so many variables between the trim levels, the Veloster's performance can vary pretty dramatically from one trim to the next. Overall, acceleration is less dramatic than expected, though some setups are speedier than others. The turbocharged engine is the obvious choice if you're looking for power and speed. The handling is outstanding across all trims — with its low body frame, the Veloster hugs turns and responds immediately to small steering adjustments.
Interior
The cabin of the 2020 Veloster seats four, though the front seat is roomier than the back. The innovative third passenger door makes entering and exiting the backseat considerably easier than in typical two-door cars. The hatchback design offers a decent amount of cargo space in the rear of the vehicle, and with the seats folded down, the cargo area is highly competitive compared to others in the class.
The tech features for the Veloster are decent, even on the base 2.0 model. A seven-inch touchscreen infotainment system comes standard on all models with an optional upgrade to an eight-inch screen available. Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Bluetooth connectivity are standard features across the lineup, and optional add-ons include wireless charging, an upgraded speaker system, and built-in navigation.
Safety Features
All six 2020 Veloster trims come standard with enticing safety features like forward collision warning, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, and driver attention monitoring. A few safety upgrades are available on higher trim models, including rear cross-traffic alert, blind-spot monitoring, and adaptive cruise control. Drivers can also add Hyundai's Blue Link technology for added smartphone safety integration.
